Depth Index of Globalisation 2013
The Spanish IESE Business School has published a new edition of its report on globalisation and international integration of countries, entitled the Depth Index of Globalisation 2013.
For a country, globalisation is defined as its integration with the rest of the world through its participation in the international flows (and stocks) of trade (products and services), of capital, of information and of people. This report comprises a composite index which ranks countries according to their degree of international integration, i.e. according to their degree of globalisation, calculated on the base of flows (and stocks) of four sub-categories. The report is based entirely on quantitative data, with a total of 139 countries around the world being analysed.
The 2013 global ranking is headed by Hong Kong and Singapore, with Luxembourg in 3rd position. Belgium ranks 5th overall, The Netherlands 6th, Germany 38th and France 54th.
According to the four sub-categories based on which the composite index and the overall ranking are derived:
Luxembourg ranks 27th for trade - products and services (down 4 positions relative to the previous edition of the report); Belgium ranks 3rd, the Netherlands 5th, Germany 47th and France 104th;
Luxembourg ranks 1st for capital; Belgium is ranked 8th, The Netherlands 10th, France 25th and Germany 46th;
Luxembourg ranks 3rd for information; Belgium is ranked 5th, The Netherlands 8th, France 20th and Germany 21st;
Luxembourg ranks 1st for people; Germany ranks 30th, Belgium 40th, The Netherlands 41st and France 45th.
