Nearly 60% of Luxembourg’s workers are in high skilled employment, the largest proportion in the world.
This score is about five points higher than second placed Singapore and ten points more than third placed Switzerland and other knowledge economies such as Israel, Iceland and Sweden. This ranking of 124 countries features in the Human Capital Report 2015 published by the World Economic Forum, the think tank and organiser of the annual Davos meeting.
Prime Minister and Communications Minister Xavier Bettel welcomed this excellent score saying: “the most precious raw materials in our country are human talent. It is the skills of each person working in Luxembourg which contributes to the international attractiveness and competitiveness of the Grand Duchy.”
Keeping skills up-to-date is also a national priority, as shown by Luxembourg’s third placed ranking for “staff training services”. This relates to how much companies invest in training and employee development, activity which also receives generous government support. This is particularly the case for the development and deployment of skills in new technologies as part of the Digital Lëtzebuerg initiative.
