Luxembourg among most influential foreign donors

Luxembourg is “among the top ten highest performing development partners based upon the usefulness of their policy advice,” says a recent report* by AidData, a provider of data on international-development finance.

The report was particularly impressed with the country’s ability to “foster long term partnerships” with 15 partner countries, enabling it to “target and tailor foreign assistance to meet the needs of in-country counterparts”.

The report ranks different countries and multilateral organisations, and it puts Luxembourg at 6th in the world in terms of “usefulness of advice”. By this measure, the Grand Duchy is the second ranked single country, behind Finland but ahead of Austria. The report went on to say that these countries had “evidently won the respect of leaders in low-income and middle-income countries. When the authorities need good advice, these are three of their ‘go to’ development partners.”
