WEF: Global Information Technology Report 2013

16 April, 2013

Luxembourg's ranking in the 12th edition of the Global Information Technology Report has risen to 16 out of 142 countries world-wide.

Published by the World Economic Forum in collaboration with INSEAD, the Global Information Technology Report measures the transformational impact of information technology and communication (ICT) in the economy and society in general.

In recent years the world has become more and more "hyper-connected", with internet and related services available almost everywhere and at any time. It has become crucial for countries to leverage these technologies to increase productivity and hence competitiveness and well-being.

The report includes a composite index called the Networked Readiness Index (NRI) calculated from fifty indicators - both quantitative and qualitative - across four pillars and ten sub-categories which measure how a country uses ICT development.

Finland leads the 2013 ranking, followed by Singapore and Sweden, with Luxembourg in 16th place, up five positions from the 2012 report. Of the Grand Duchy's neighbours, Germany is ranked N°13, Belgium is in N°24 and France is N°26.
